Selection goals and programme

SELECTION GOALS
The selection goals for the Grey Alpine Breed / Grauvieh consist of improving its aptitude for production of milk and meat in terms of both quality and quantity. The aim is also to preserve all the morpho-functional characteristics that mark the breed: medium size, robust constitution, correct locomotor apparatus with hard hooves, rustic, grazing ability, fertility and ease of birth, and easy to milk.

SELECTION PROGRAMME
The Grey Alpine / Grauvieh is being improved as a pure breed. The selection schedule is the classic one for breeds with dual production aptitudes The intention is to produce new generations of bulls chosen from among those resulting from mating the best cows and the best bulls and subsequently assessing them in terms of their aptitude for both meat production (performance test) and milk production (progeny test). The selection activities make use of modern techniques for processing production data.
